President Bola Tinubu has been called upon to intervene in the lingering crises that is threatening to tear the All Progressives Congress (APC) apart in Benue State.
The former APC Youth Leader of Benue South and a Director of Operations, Alia/Ode Campaign Organisation ,Hon Anthony Adah made the call yesterday while interacting with reporters in Makurdi.
He said that if Tinubu do not interven now then the party should forget winning the 2027 elections in the state.
He called on party leaders involved in the crises to sheathe their sword and embrace peace ahead of the next general elections in the State.
He noted that the lingering internal crises rocking the party in the state is getting messier and capable of affecting the well being of the party.
“I humbly call on the president to intervene in Benue state just like he did in Rivers state. Today the state governor has brought in a factional chairman as against the party guidelines that recognised the seating chairman,” he said.
He expressed displeasure over the polarisation of the party and called on the party leaders to put every crisis behind them in the interest of the state.
The party has been enmeshed in a deep crises leading to the formation of a faction loyal to Governor Hyacinth Alia resulting in the war of supremacy among the leaders of the party in the state.
Adah said the animosity that has bedeviled the party in the state is uncalled for and there was a need for the leaders to close ranks and shelve their personal interests in the overall interest of the party.
“Having one of the most prominent politicians in the country who is the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, (SGF) ,Sen.George Akume as our leader and a reverend gentleman as governor our state is supposed to be a progressive and peaceful state.
“But unfortunately there is so much animosity in the party and lack of unity which is a cause of concern to all of us. Recent happening suggest that if this is not nipped in the bud in time the build up to the 2027 election in the state might be bloody and unprecedented, “ he said.
Adah lamented that after many members of the Benue South Senatorial zone worked tirelessly for the APC to win the 2023 gubernatorial and presidential election in the state many have not been given any patronage while youths from other parts of the state are giving appointments.
He called on Governor Alia not to discriminate against youths perceived to be “SGF Boys “ as every member of the APC in the state including the governor were recruited by Sen Akume for the victory of the party.
“The question I want to ask is, who is not Akume’s boy? who in APC in Benue State that is not an SGF boy including the governor himself. It was the SGF that assembled all of us together and we worked to deliver Asiwaju Bola Ahmed as President and Alia as Governor. But today I do not even want to look at where I come from. Having noticed that every office in the state is been run by direct relatives or close allies in a particular zone cutting off Zone C entirely is a thing of concern so I have decided to air out my bitterness and grievances so that the government will take note.”
He advised the governor to stop factionalising the party, saying that there is no provision in the APC constitution that allows for two chairmen in a State.
“There is a legitimate chairman that participated in the congress and won and if the governor is not comfortable with the chairman, he can remove him through the appropriate means and not to have two factions that is leading to mayhem and turbulence on a daily basis. The former APC youth leader called for peace in the party in Benue.
