Much as he avoids publicity like a plague, CEO of P&G Records, Peter Dunia, better known as Peter Black, has earned laudable recognitions in his community and society at large, due to his notable contributions in the area of youth empowerment and skill acquisition spanning music, talent management, sports, and social advocacy, through his vast network and resources.
This humanitarian is not a typical media tiger. He believes that his intervention in the lives of the people was a contract between himself and God, which should not be celebrated in the public glare. However, his development impact has continued to generate attention. Little wonder he has earned nomination as Man of the Year for the eighth Leadership Excellence Awards scheduled to take place in November.
Others nominated alongside in different category includes FiveStar Records owner, Emeka Okonkwo – E Money, and socialite, Chima Anyaso. Organised annually, the prestigious Igbere TV Leadership Excellence Awards (LEEX Awards) honor top leaders, change-makers, innovators in Nigeria and across Africa and recognises excellence in leadership, public service, innovation, and humanitarian work.
Born on September 19, 1972, Peter Black hails from Ogbona in Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State. Peter Dunia’s story reads as an inspiring testament to selfless leadership and transformative community impact. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, to Grace Dunia and the late John Agunu Dunia, Peter Dunia’s formative years set the stage for his lifelong commitment to service.
Within the scope of his interest in music and entertainment, Peter Black supports primarily through creative industry investments, talent management, and youth empowerment as artist sponsor, supporting local recording spaces and up-and-coming musicians. In talent management, he established a recording studio and actively supports, mentors, and develops up-and-coming musical artists.
He combines his backing of the entertainment and sports sectors having sponsored the Warri Wolves football club and building sports and community complexes. His work in the creative space ties into broader youth skill-acquisition and empowerment initiatives in Nigeria. In the arts, he integrates creative arts into programs, building recreational and talent-nurturing infrastructure in his Edo State.
Peter Dunia stands out as a celebrated Nigerian philanthropist, businessman, and humanitarian for his remarkable contributions to community development, youth empowerment, and humanitarian initiatives. As the Chairman of the Oceanwave Group of Companies, Dunia’s work spans multiple sectors and has earned him widespread recognition, particularly for his enduring impact in the Niger Delta.
His background foretells his journey. “I lived a very good part of my life in Delta State, but I am originally from Auchi in Edo State, Ogbona, to be precise,” he recalls during a recent session. “My growing up was quite interesting in the sense that you have to go through life and what it brings. It wasn’t easy, but I am grateful to God Almighty for bringing me this far to succeed.”
His lifestyle reflects and delves into his engagements. “I love good music, the reason I manage a recording studio and a few artistes, and yes, I love very good food. And I am a football fanatic, am all for Arsenal, and when you love something, you show it. The reason I single handedly sponsored Warri Wolves for two years was that everything was upon me throughout the period.”
He said, “Life has taught me a lot, growing up with hardship and perseverance, then the only thing that just makes me happy is to be able to help in any way I can. I don’t like lazy people. In as much as I see you want to do something and I can be of help, then I will. Even God said he will bless the works of our hands, so do something, don’t just be in a place and complain.”
Peter Dunia’s vision stands in sharp contrast to the self-interest often seen among the affluent. Rather than seek personal luxury, he invested in meaningful projects that uplift mankind. His philanthropy exemplifies leadership, ingenuity, and a genuine commitment to giving back, serving as an inspirational model for others.
His legacy proofs that lasting fulfillment and societal progress are found in service, dedication to greater good, rather than personal accumulation of wealth.
