Aondoakaa, George Task Tinubu on Credible Leadership
Funmi Ogundare
A former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Michael Aondoakaa, SAN, yesterday called on President Bola Tinubu to select people, who would be ready to work and think outside the box into his cabinet to help resolve the challenges confronting the nation.
In the same vein, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), Chief Olabode George, has also said the country needed a new beginning and leaders, who would be more committed and would serve the people, rather than themselves.
Aondoakaa and George were guests on The Morning Show on Arise TV, and spoke on the backdrop of Tinubu’s presidency.
According to Aondoakaa, the performance of Tinubu’s government would give it the full legitimacy people were expecting.
“If Nigerians get what they want and what they are lacking in terms of security, basic welfare needs of workers, good health care and food on the table, then legitimacy is being able to deliver and I believe that the president should select the best hands to assist him in doing this job. Nigerians are waiting to see him deliver and provide security and basic needs of the people,” he said.
He noted that though the basic economy of Nigeria was driven by agriculture, considering the Gross Domestic Product ( GDP), with insecurity, the farmers had been unable to go to their farms.
“Agriculture tends to be the main driver of the economy but where there is insecurity, agriculture cannot be carried out because farmers cannot go to the farms. Therefore, everybody is waiting to see that this government brings security and those should be put there must be people of high calibre,” Aondoakaa stressed.
He stated that the new Attorney General that will be appointed, must be somebody that would have respect for core decisions, rule of law, and people’s fundamental human rights.
His words: “There is impunity and people believe that they don’t respect their fundamental human rights. Also, on the economy, they should be able to restore the confidence of people in our naira. The president should get people who are very credible into key positions,” he said.
George, who was also a guest on Arise TV, said the country needed a new beginning and leaders, who would be more committed and serve the people, rather than themselves.
“General Buhari is out now, a post mortem analysis of what he has done while in office, will be on the pages of history. All the things he didn’t do will be written against him. Look at the electoral process, I was there in my office when he made a national broadcast that he was going to leave a positive legacy to take us from the doldrums of hell.
“However, what did we find with the manipulators that were supposed to go through the most modern technology? Absolute garbage. He reverted to the use of hand and we are back to the stone age,” he said.
George described the pronouncement on fuel subsidy removal by Tinubu as a calamity, saying it was capable of afflicting Nigerians, adding that his party was waiting for the pronouncement by the court to get justice.
“I am praying that whoever wins, all of us need to pray for our leaders, because they must not misdirect us. So many areas of our economy has collapsed. We are at the precipice. We need prayers not power,” he stressed.
