Rotary Club of Ikeja: Creating Lasting Impact Through Economic Empowerment, Service

As Rotary Club of Ikeja prepares to usher in a new Rotary year, it is reaffirming a tradition that has defined the Club for decades, putting service before ceremony and community impact before celebration.

Ahead of the Investiture of its 59th President, Rotarian Olukayode Osokomaiya, the Club demonstrated its enduring commitment to humanitarian service through two of its flagship community empowerment initiatives, vocational empowerment for women and financial support for small business owners.

Held as part of activities marking the commencement of the 2026–2027 Rotary year, the programme brought together Rotarians, community leaders and development partners to celebrate the transformative power of service. In collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA), Rotary Club of Ikeja presented sewing machines to selected beneficiaries, equipping them with the tools to build sustainable livelihoods through vocational skills.

The Club also presented a ₦2 million Micro Credit fund to support selected traders in Obada Isolo Market, providing financial assistance to help them strengthen and expand their businesses. The initiative reflects Rotary Club of Ikeja’s long-standing belief that empowering entrepreneurs and supporting small businesses are practical ways to stimulate economic growth, promote self-reliance and improve the wellbeing of families.

For Rotary Club of Ikeja, these interventions are more than charitable donations. They are strategic investments in people. A sewing machine is an opportunity for a woman to establish or grow a tailoring business. Access to microcredit gives traders the confidence and capacity to increase their inventory, improve their income and create greater financial stability for their households.

These programmes have become annual traditions of the Club, demonstrating a consistent commitment to empowering individuals with the resources and opportunities needed to build better futures. Rather than focusing on short-term relief, Rotary Club of Ikeja continues to invest in initiatives that create sustainable social and economic impact.

Beyond economic empowerment, the Club remains actively involved in projects spanning education, healthcare, maternal and child health, youth development, disease prevention, environmental sustainability and peacebuilding. Through these initiatives, Rotary Club of Ikeja continues to partner with communities, institutions and organisations to address pressing societal challenges and improve the quality of life for vulnerable populations.

The Club believes that meaningful service is measured not by the number of projects completed, but by the lives transformed. Every empowered entrepreneur, every vocational beneficiary and every successful community intervention contributes to stronger families, more resilient communities and a more inclusive society.

These community initiatives also set the tone for the Investiture of Rotarian Olukayode Osokomaiya as the 59th President of Rotary Club of Ikeja, scheduled for Sunday, 12 July 2026, at the Sheraton Lagos Hotel & Towers, Ikeja. The occasion will bring together Rotary leaders, government officials, business executives, community partners and friends of Rotary to celebrate a new chapter of leadership while reaffirming the Club’s unwavering commitment to Service Above Self.

Speaking on the significance of the Club’s empowerment initiatives, Rotarian Olukayode Osokomaiya noted that Rotary’s mission extends beyond responding to immediate needs.

“Our commitment is to create opportunities that empower people to become self-reliant and improve their quality of life. Every project we undertake is designed to leave a lasting impact on individuals, families and communities. That is the essence of Rotary, and it will continue to guide our service throughout this Rotary year.”
