Makoko Shines with Gratitude as Beacon 33 Delivers Life-Changing Support
The sun shone brightly on August 23, 2025, over the waters of Makoko, the famed floating slum of Lagos often referred to as the Venice of Africa. That day, the usually bustling settlement carried a different kind of energy, one marked by gratitude, relief, and hope.
The Beacon 33 Foundation, in collaboration with CCI Global Medical Team, Lagos State AIDS Control Agency, Ftloc, Love Legacy, Zeelicious Cakes and Confectioneries, Orca Securities, and Distinct Media, organized a large-scale outreach program that brought smiles to hundreds of residents. The initiative provided free medical supplies, health checks, relief materials, and school items for children.
The inhabitants of Makoko, many of whom face daily struggles with inadequate healthcare, poor infrastructure, and economic hardship, welcomed the outreach with visible joy. Several residents expressed their gratitude to the Foundation for bringing not only essential supplies but also a renewed sense of dignity and inclusion.
This is not the first time Beacon 33 has extended such support to vulnerable communities. Earlier this year, the Foundation visited the Women’s Correctional Centre in Kirikiri, Lagos State, where they distributed sanitary towels, toiletries, detergents, and medical supplies while also conducting free health checks.
Founded by Adedoyin Samuel, Beacon 33 is built on the vision of reaching marginalized communities, those behind bars, those in slums, and those society often overlooks. The organization’s guiding mantra, “Isolation to Inclusion,” reflects its mission to assure people in difficult circumstances that they are seen, valued, and not forgotten.
Through its growing network of partnerships and its consistent outreach efforts, Beacon 33 is quietly but steadily reshaping the narrative for some of the most vulnerable groups in society, proving that compassion, when acted upon, has the power to turn isolation into hope.
