Yabacon Africa Empowers Tech Innovator with 1million naira Grant
As part of efforts towards contributing its own quota towards the sustainable economic development of the nation, Yabacon Africa has empowered a technology innovator with the sum of 1 million naira during its 2024 edition of its Yabacon Meet.
The competition which featured innovative business idea pitches from various entrepreneurs across the various sectors of the technology space, recently in Lagos saw a research and data analyst, Damilola Kaffo emerge as the winner of the 1 million naira grant.
Kaffo’s solution, Gigaeden tackles the challenges in the real estate sector such as quackery, inadequate data in regards to pricing, and enables consumers to view the live location of the property they intend to purchase or rent remotely from the comfort of their homes from any part of the world.
According to him, the grant would enable him to develop a virtual software and model in order to tackle and generate solutions to this economic problem as well as marketing the solution to its consumers and target audience. On his part, Founder Yabacon Africa, Jesse Essang pointed out that the grant is a way of giving back to the society it still remains dedicated towards developing.
He explained that operating in a society that does not have so much infrastructure and amenities for innovators we saw the need to support and empower young technology driven ideas thrive.
“In regards to how the winner was picked, we looked at factors such as impact, how much has been put into the solution thus far prior to the pitch, as well as an idea that is scalable with a minimal cost of production,” Essang added. Meanwhile the tech summit themed, “Innovating for a brighter Tomorrow” was aimed at celebrating Africa’s unparalleled innovative spirit whilst highlighting its collective ability to generate solutions to solve economic problems through collaboration and bold ideas.
Speakers included thought leaders such as Abiola Rasaq, David Ike-Njoku, Opeyemi Akosile, Jeremiah Folorunso, Folake Dauda, and Oluwaseun Adesina, who will share their insights on software development, open-source innovation, artificial intelligence, and more.
