Edo Lawmaker Gives Out N10M Scholarship to Best Performing Students in Edo

In keeping with his promise to provide yearly books and scholarships to the best students in his constituency, the member representing Egor/ Ikpoba-Okha federal constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Murphy Osaro Omoruyi on Wednesday in Benin City doled out the sum of N10 million to 120 best students from public secondary schools in his constituency.
The exercise, which took place at the Teachers House in Benin City, was the second edition of the Murphy Osaro Omoruyi’s yearly scholarship scheme for Senior Secondary School (SSS) students in the constituency.
Four best performing SSS-3 students from public schools in Egor and Ikpoba-Okha LGAs totaling 120 students benefited from the scholarship.
The money is to enable the students to purchase all textbooks and other materials needed to enhance their performance in the forthcoming West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations.
In addition to the money, the students also received enough branded notebooks that will cover their final year academic activities.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Hon. Omoruyi said no nation can make any meaningful development without education, hence his commitment and investment in the sector.
The lawmaker promised to sustain the annual scholarship programme as long as he continues to represent the two local government areas in the National Assembly.
Omoruyi admonished the students to put the fund to good use, adding that by doing so, he would be encouraged to do more.
Some of the benefiting students who could not hide their excitement assured the donor of judicious use of the fund even as they prayed to God to bless his tenure in the National Assembly with wisdom and sound health.
The ceremony was the 2024/2025 and second edition of the Murphy Osaro Omoruyi’s scholarship scheme for the best students of public secondary schools in his constituency, while 2022-2023 first edition of the scholarship scheme took place in November 2023.
