Easter: Nasarawa CAN Urges Sacrifice for Nigeria’s Development

Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State,  Rev. Paul Makama, Chairman, has called on Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of sacrifice for development to thrive in the country.

Makama made the call during a rally organised by the association to mark Easter celebration in Akwanga yesterday.

He pointed out that the country could only experience the desired growth and development when all citizens – both the leaders and the led become sacrificial in the interest of others as exemplified by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

According to him, Christ made the ultimate sacrifice by dying to save mankind from death occasioned by sin.

“Easter  marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ three days after his death by crucifixion. We are celebrating the real essence of Christianity.

“We should learn to be sacrificial in all that we do,” he said.

Makama appreciated Christians for coming out in their numbers for the rally to celebrate and urged them to always depend on God in order to overcome their challenges.

He also emphasised the need for Nigerians irrespective of faith to eschew evil, preach love, peace and unity at all times.

Also speaking, Pastor Best Barau, CAN Zonal Chairman, Nasarawa North, urged Nigerians to be fervent in prayers in view of the current economic challenges facing the country.

“ So many things  are happening. The world is in crisis, political crisis, terrorism, hunger and other challenges.

“The consolation is that we have a cover and the cover is Jesus Christ. So let’s us not  be deterred with what  is happening as God is our saviour and provider,” he said.

On his part, the Commissioner Representing Nasarawa State at the National Population Commission, Mr Silas Agara,  stressed the need for Nigerians to be more united at this time in the interest of the country’s growth.

Agara, a former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, called on Nigerians to continue to pray and support their leaders to succeed.
