Deji Elumoye in Abuja
President Bola Tinubu is meeting with former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd), at the State House, Abuja.
The meeting is the first between the duo since President Tinubu’s assumption of office on May 29, 2023.
Although the reason for the meeting is not disclosed, it is however not unlikely that the former Head of State may be rubbing minds with President Tinubu on how to tackle the economic and security challenges facing the country.
General Gowon, who led Nigeria through the difficult era of the Nigerian Civil War from 1967 to 1970, has also featured in efforts at stabilizing the nation over the years, organising stakeholders in peace efforts ahead of general election in the last couple of years.
