APC Condemns Violent Attack on Kogi REC, Demands Arrests of Perpetrators

The All Progressives Congress (APC), has condemned the violent attack on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Kogi State, Dr. Gabriel Longpet.

It, therefore, called  on law enforcement authorities to expeditiously investigate, arrest and bring perpetrators to justice.

Armed men in the wee hours of Friday had attacked the residence of Longpet and engaged the security personnel in a gun battle for over 30 minutes until reinforcements arrived.

However, the National Publicity Secretary of APC, Felix Morka, accompanied by the Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Duro Meseko, stated this while  reading out the resolutions of the 138th meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) held yesterday in Abuja to journalists.

“Condemns the violent attack on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Kogi State, Dr. Gabriel Longpet, and calls on law enforcement authorities to expeditiously investigate, arrest and bring perpetrators to justice,” he noted.

The spokesperson revealed that the inauguration of the Standing Committees of the party scheduled to be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, has been postponed until further notice.

Morka noted that the  NWC deliberated on the party’s schedule/plan of activities leading up to the 21st September, 2024 off-season governorship election in Edo State and 16th November, 2024 governorship election in Ondo State, adding that the full schedule of activities would be published shortly.

Morka said the NWC noted that the appointments of five state officers by the respective State Working Committees of the party.

They are Peter Akarogbe,  Secretary, Delta State; Hon. Adeola Jokomba, Secretary, Lagos State; Hon. Aminu Musa Bobi, Chairman, Niger State;  Hon. Aliyi Bello, Chairman, Nasarawa State;  and Mr. Yainus Dangusa, Secretary, Nasarawa State.
