Biden Meets Tinubu in New Delhi

Hails president’s move to revive Nigerian economy

.Applauds Nigeria’s efforts to restore democratic rule in Niger Republic

United States President Joe Biden on Sunday met formally with his Nigerian counterpart, Bola Tinubu, in New Delhi, Indian capital. 

The meeting was on the sidelines of the G-20 Leaders Summit which began yesterday and is expected to end on Sunday in New Delhi. 

During the meeting between the two leaders, Biden hailed Tinubu for the economic steps taken so far to revive Nigeria’s economy since he became President on May 29, 2023.

The US President also applauded the role of Tinubu as ECOWAS Chairman towards restoring democratic rule and rule of law in Niger Republic and beyond.

The US in a release by the White House stated:

“President Joe Biden met with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu today on the sidelines of the G20 in New Delhi, India to reinforce our enduring commitment to the U.S.-Nigeria relationship and to the longstanding friendship between our two countries and peoples. 

“President Biden welcomed the Tinubu Administration’s steps to reform Nigeria’s economy and thanked President Tinubu for his strong leadership as the chair of the Economic Community of West African States to defend and preserve democracy and the rule of law in Niger and the broader region. 

“Nigeria’s invitation to the G20 Summit is a recognition of Nigeria’s important global role as Africa’s largest democracy and economy”.
