For rising artistes, relentlessly waiting for their moment of breakthrough where their sound reaches the right ears, the grind doesn’t stop. For those that have been at it for several months or years, that tender stage requires a significant amount of persistence and consistency but with the recent age of social media, the process has been somewhat simplified. Or so it seems for Daniella Daniel aka Morravey.

Morravey hails from Port Harcout, Rivers State. She’s both a versatile singer and songwriter with unique voice and a special talent in blending Afro sounds. Before joining Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), she participated in singing competitions and talent shows at her school. She was discovered by Davido from a viral freestyle she posted on Tiktok.

The new signee makes the second woman, after Liya, to work under DMW. Taking to TikTok to show anyone who would care to listen to what she is made of, 21-year-old Morravey posted a series of freestyles on the app. With the drive and hunger of any up-and-coming artist, she tagged several front players of the blooming genre that is Afropop and one viral video later, she successfully gained the attention of Davido.

She was introduced to listeners around the world in Davido’s ‘Timeless’ album. When on Wednesday, March 29, Davido Music Worldwide unveiled two new artistes, including Morravey, as the latest signees to its now rebranded label DMW 2.0 the unveiling followed the rebranding of the music label, which has adopted a new logo.

Morravey has shared some insight about how Davido signed her. In an interview with ‘Turntable Charts,’ the elated singer revealed that she was stunned upon receiving Davido’s message and was unable to move from her bed. She stated that the head of 30BG had reached out to her, asking for her phone number and expressing his interest in signing her.

She said she was practising to make a cover of a song, and it was being recorded by her friend without her knowing. “So, weeks later, when we couldn’t post that particular song, he posted that video [the part] where I was not showing in it. When he posted it, it was everywhere. Then, one morning, I saw one text message and when I checked it, it was Davido. I shouted ‘Ye!’ I froze. I was on my bed. And then, I sent my manager a text.

“He [Davido] was like: ‘Your voice is amazing. Can I have your number?’ Then, he sent me a text: ‘What’s up? It’s David…’ Then, he sent me a text on WhatsApp and everything went down. He was like: ‘I want to see you in Lagos.’ And that’s how I pushed from Port Harcourt to Lagos.”
