League of Women Voters Set for 25th Anniversary Conference

The League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV) is set to host its 25th anniversary conference on November 25th with participants drawn from women and men across the world. The event which will take place in Abuja with the theme, ‘Nigerian Women Overcoming Challenges In Politics and Leadership’ will feature discussions on key national issues.

A statement jointly signed by the league’s founder, Hon. Dame Esther; chairman, National Organising Committee, Ambassador Dr. Kema Chikwe and Secretary, NOC, Regina Omo-Agege, revealed notable speakers billed for the event to include: Governance Team leader and Country Director Action Aid Nigeria, Ene OBI; former Director of the Kenyan Anti-Corruption Commission, Patrick Otieno Lumumba and Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed.

Founded in 1996 after the Beijing Conference of 1995, NILOWV seeks to promote women and their goals. It also seeks to support women elective positions to take up prominent roles in society as well as to mobilise women generally, especially at the grass-roots level, to support women’s rights groups and to empower women economically and politically for a more perfect democracy.
