Lagos SUBEB Empowers Staff on Advance Microsoft Excel

The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LSUBEB) has trained it’s budget, EMIS and evaluation officers on advance Microsoft Excel and Office 365 .

The four-day retreat held at the board’s multi-purpose hall was aimed at equipping officers on the application of UNESCO Institute of Statistics (UIS) software, introduction to Family life HIV/AID indicator (FLH) with monitoring and evaluation reporting templates.

In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of the board, Wahab Alawiye-King said the retreat was designed to enhance its effective and efficient education management information and also tackle issues facing budget, monitoring and evaluation service delivery in basic education system.

He explained that data gathering will help the basic education sub sector consolidate on the gains in the area of digitalisation.

“It is one of the key factor in achieving third pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda education and technology of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.”

The chairman said data capturing helps in unveiling intelligent and sharper decisions, adding that it is the process of building a model which will assist in outlining the future direction of the board.
Alawiye-King described data analysis as that which is mathematical, practical and oral in contrast, noting that the integration of technology has strengthened learning and teaching activities in public primary schools.

“With rapid changes and development in the Nigeria education system and indeed global ICT recently, it became more compelling for us to converge and assess our challenges and strategise for better planning, research and statistics activities,” he said.

He appealed to the participants to take advantage of the workshop as it will address the shortcomings on data collection, analysis and aid the presentation of timely and reliable educational report for planning and making management decision.

“As EMIS, planning and budget officers, you should be able to access data from our database, we should be able to state what is happening now in our schools and what will happen in the future.”

Dr. Hakeem Shittu, Board Member In charge of Planning, Research and Statistics said the workshop was to keep the officers abreast with necessary tools needed for data processing and analysis.

He charged them to take advantage of the training and acquire knowledge that will make them effective in their profession.

Managing Director, Dawid Consultancy, Mr. Nelson noted that the workshop will equip the participants with necessary skills in data processing and also achieve valuable report on data gathering and evaluation.
