The Shehu of Borno, His Eminence Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin Elkanemi, has announced plans to confer the prestigious traditional title of Zannan Borno on Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, in a grand turbaning ceremony.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to Kebbi State Governor, Abdullahi Idris Sadaukin Zuru.

The royal father made the disclosure when he received a delegation of the Kebbi State Governor’s Media Team on a nationwide advocacy tour at his palace in Maiduguri.

According to Shehu, who also serves as Deputy National Chairman of the Northern Nigerian Traditional Rulers Council, the event will be historic and will attract prominent personalities from politics, governance, traditional and religious institutions, technocrats, and labour unions across the country and beyond. He said the date will be announced in due course.

Shehu Elkanemi said the decision reflects Governor Idris’s wide reach and associations, adding that he has been closely monitoring the governor’s activities since he assumed office three years ago.

He particularly commended Idris for his cordial relationship with traditional institutions and religious leaders of all faiths, his engagement with government functionaries, and his holistic approach to socio-economic and infrastructural development in Kebbi State.

“The demonstration of these rare leadership qualities by Comrade Nasir Idris has remarkably strengthened the cordial relationship between governmental, non-governmental and traditional institutions, and commendably improved the well-being of the people of Kebbi State,” the monarch stated.

The Shehu also applauded the governor’s efforts in confronting security challenges, describing them as commendable.

He further commended his counterparts in Kebbi — the Emirs of Gwandu, Argungu, Yauri and Zuru — for their support to Governor Idris and to the Northern Nigerian Traditional Rulers Council.

According to him, it was on the basis of the governor’s exceptional leadership and successful execution of impactful projects that he resolved to confer on him the title of Zannan Borno, the letter of conferment was sent to the governor earlier this year.

Idris already holds several traditional titles including Kauran Gwandu, Gwarzon Daular Usmaniya, Kaura Nupe, Jigon Kabi,  Gamjin Yauri and Garkuwan Zuru

Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Kebbi State Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, said the visit was to pay homage and to showcase the performance and achievements of Governor Idris in Kebbi State.
