NPFL: Rangers Hanging on to the Top, Remo Back in Drop Zone

Enugu Rangers yesterday maintained their leadership of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with a 2-0 away win at Bayelsa United.

The Flying Antelopes are unfazed by big home win by closest rivals Rivers United against Abia Warriors as they now have 62 points from 36 matches.

Rivers United however maintained the pressure on the leaders with just a point separating them at the top of the Nigerian topflight. Wasiu Falolu, Timothy Zachariah and Bello Babatunde  scored the three goals for Rivers to stay close to Rangers.

Shooting Stars are provisionally third on 57 points on the back of a 3-2 home win over Nasarawa United with Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle in attendance at the game.

However, the battle in the drop zone is getting fierce with champions Remo Stars’ woes compounded after they fell 2-1 at Enyimba to return to the Relegation Zone.

Remo Stars are 18th on the table with 43 points, while Enyimba are 11th on 46 points.

Kun Khalifat boosted their survival hopes with a 2-1 home victory over Kano Pillars. The Owerri team now have 43 points, just a point away from safety.

In other results, Warri Wolves pipped Plateau United 1-0  while Niger Tornadoes were held 2-2 draw by Kwara United.

Barau FC smashed past El Kanemi to ensure they will still be playing in the top flight next season.

The match between Bendel Insurance and hosts Katsina United was washed off by rain after 62 minutes with scores goalless. The remaining minutes will be concluded this morning.
