ISOC Nigeria Chapter Trains 2,500 Nigerians to Mark Safer Internet Day 2026
The Internet Society (ISOC) Nigeria Chapter has announced the successful completion of its nationwide campaign in celebration of Safer Internet Day (SID) 2026. According to the society, the celebration demonstrates a steadfast commitment to digital literacy and security, with the Chapter conducting 37 impactful outreach activities across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and all 36 states of the federation.
Under the global theme, “Smart Tech, Safe Choices – Exploring the Safe and Responsible Use of AI,” the initiative reached over 2,500 participants, including pupils, students, teachers, parents, and members of the disability community.
Kunle Olorundare, President of the Internet Society, Nigeria Chapter, in a statement, highlighted the significance of the campaign, noting that the events were strategically designed to empower diverse demographics with the tools needed to navigate an increasingly complex digital landscape.
“In an era where technology is evolving at breakneck speed, our mission is to ensure that every Nigerian, regardless of their background or ability possesses the knowledge to thrive online. By engaging these communities, we are not just teaching digital skills; we are building a foundation for Online Trust and Safety, which is central to our 2026 mission agenda,” said Olorundare.
He also noted that the training is in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda, which aligns with pillar one of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, which is knowledge.
The nationwide workshops and sensitization sessions focused on equipping participants with critical knowledge across several core areas. These sessions covered cyber hygiene and digital security to teach best practices for protecting personal devices and accounts. Participants also explored privacy and data protection to understand the importance of personal data in the digital age. Furthermore, the program promoted responsible digital citizenship by encouraging ethical behavior and positive online interactions. Finally, the training included AI literacy to help users navigate the ethical and secure use of emerging artificial intelligence technologies.
These efforts align directly with the Internet Society’s 2030 strategic goal, which aims to ensure that people everywhere have access to a safe, secure, and inclusive Internet experience.
The SID 2026 celebration achieved a truly national footprint. Through this extensive outreach, the ISOC Nigeria Chapter continues to foster a digital ecosystem where safety is prioritized and innovation is practiced responsibly.
