Bashir Gegu’s rise in Kogi politics earns him accolades, traditional titles
Engr. Abubakar Bashir Mohammed, also known as Bashir Gegu, has continued to gain prominence in Kogi politics, earning accolades and multiple traditional titles in recognition of his contributions to society.
From his appointment as Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Kogi State on Local Government Matters in 2015 to his current role as Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Bashir Gegu has remained a key player in the state’s political and administrative space.
His commitment to service earned him commendation from former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, who reportedly honoured him with the title Sarkin Yaki.
He currently serves as Chairman of the Mineral Resources and Environmental Management Committee.
Beyond politics, traditional institutions have recognised his impact with several chieftaincy titles, including the Sardauna of Gegu Beki Chiefdom, the Ciroma of Iraki Chiefdom, and the Madaki of Ekuzi.
He was also honoured as the Ondaaki Irekwu of Igu Koton-Karfe Kingdom, Jagoran Matasan Abaji, and Tambari of Kupa.
His support for traditional institutions recently came to the fore when he gifted the Paramount Ruler of Lokoja, HRH Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir IV, a brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser to ease his official duties.
