Kwara South PDP Senatorial aspirant Says Security, Infrastructure, Jobs top Agenda for 2027

Professor Muritala Awodun, PDP senatorial aspirant for Kwara South in the 2027 general elections, says he will push for increased government investment in infrastructure to close the development gap in the district.
“There is a significant infrastructure gap in our region. While I will advocate for increased government investment, I also believe in community-driven development,” Awodun told Journalists in an interview in Abuja.
He said Kwara South historically built schools and other facilities through collective effort, and he would encourage similar stakeholder collaboration alongside government intervention to deliver projects.
Security First in 100 Days
Awodun maintained that security remains his number one priority if elected. He cited deserted communities in Kwara South under the outgoing administration, saying no meaningful development can happen without safety of lives and property.
“My immediate focus in the first 100 days will be to join hands with the incoming administration, and support efforts that will restore peace, enable displaced persons to return home, and ensure our communities are safe again,” he said.
Security-related legislation will take precedence, he added, alongside laying foundations for economic and youth policies.
Jobs, Agriculture, Entrepreneurship
A professor of business and entrepreneurship, Awodun said government alone cannot solve youth unemployment. Drawing from his time as founding Director of KWASU Centre for Entrepreneurship, he pledged to promote youth-led innovations, grants, and small businesses that can “grow and employ others.”
He described Kwara South as “richly endowed” with arable land and minerals, but lacking coordinated development. His plan: mobilize indigenes at home and in the diaspora to invest back home, guided by short-, medium-, and long-term economic blueprints “that will outlive any single administration.”
For agriculture, he promised to promote commercial farming and revive “Agric as a culture” in secondary schools through competitions, modeling programs he ran at KWASU and KWIRS.
Support for SMEs, Women, Education
Awodun said small businesses are the “backbone of our economy.” He plans to sponsor registration of informal businesses to unlock access to grants and soft loans, plus create platforms linking entrepreneurs to funding, training, and markets.
On women, he cited his Muritala Awodun Widows and Orphans Foundation, which has supported over 900 widows since 2017. He pledged to promote women’s access to education, economic opportunities, and political participation.
For education, he promised scholarships for need and excellence, plus learning materials for indigent students. “We must restore the culture of celebrating academic achievement while ensuring no child is denied education due to financial constraints,” he said.
Health and Federal Projects
Beyond advocating for better government facilities, Awodun said he will back community-based healthcare through periodic medical outreaches in rural areas, with focus on early diagnosis.
He pledged “active and result-oriented” representation to attract federal projects, saying Kwara South deserves “visible and impactful representation.”
Linking youth restiveness to economic hardship, he said productive engagement through entrepreneurship, skills, and sports would reduce crime and instability.
“Kwara South has immense potential. With unity, strategic planning, and collective effort, we can transform our region into a hub of prosperity and security,” Awodun said. “Let my people trust me on this Kwara South Agenda, as the entire people of Kwara State once trusted me with the Revenue Reform Agenda and I delivered.”
PDP primaries for 2027 National Assembly seats are expected by mid-2026. Awodun is a former Chairman of KWIRS and ex-Director at KWASU Centre for Entrepreneurship.
