Chukwudera Anunagba Bags NiTA Most Exceptional Data Analytics Professional of the Year Award
By Tolulope Oke
Chukwudera Anunagba, A Technology Analyst and one of the most consequential young data professionals working in global finance today, has been named the Most Exceptional Data Analytics Professional of the Year by the Nigeria Technology Awards. The honour, presented at the NiTA ceremony, recognises a professional whose contributions to enterprise data governance and peer-reviewed research have set a standard that few in his field, at any age, have matched.
Chukwudera Anunagba works as a Technology Analyst at Barclays, the London-headquartered global financial institution with operations spanning more than 40 countries. In that role, he is embedded within some of the bank’s most sensitive and consequential data infrastructure: building regulatory data frameworks, conducting data lineage analysis, and mapping critical data elements across intricate SQL-based architectures. For an institution whose compliance obligations are among the most stringent in global finance, the quality of that work is not a background function. It is a strategic imperative. He delivers it with a precision that his colleagues and supervisors have consistently acknowledged.
Yet the professional story that earned him this award extends considerably beyond his Barclays mandate. Chukwudera Anunagba is a published researcher whose peer-reviewed papers address some of the most pressing questions at the intersection of technology, finance, and security. His published works examine the economics of ransomware resilience in hospital networks, the strategic logic of zero trust security architecture, artificial intelligence-driven frameworks for enterprise decision intelligence, and financial forensics methodologies for detecting cyber-enabled fraud in telemedicine services. These are not peripheral interests. They are sustained intellectual commitments that have produced publications finding audiences in respected academic journals across multiple regions.
The research community has responded with a consistency that is itself telling. He has been named Reviewer of the Year in 2022 and 2024, and Editor of the Year in 2022, 2023, and 2024 across multiple journals in the information technology and cybersecurity domains. He also holds active membership on the editorial boards of several academic publications, a position that reflects the trust the scholarly community places in his judgment and his grasp of what constitutes rigorous, consequential research.
The path to this point was built deliberately. During his undergraduate years at Kennesaw State University, where he graduated in Information Systems and received the institution’s Dean’s Award, he held back-to-back internships at Barclays and Infoblox. At Barclays, he led a four-person development team to deliver an internal networking platform within an eight-week window, achieving a 92 per cent user satisfaction score through iterative UX refinement. At Infoblox, he researched over 120 enterprise integrations across more than 40 vendors and redesigned a partner portal interface that meaningfully improved usability. He was selected as a HBCU 20×20 Tech FORWARD Fellow from a pool exceeding 400 applicants and holds fellowship status with the Chartered Institute of Strategic Management.
On receiving the NiTA honour, Chukwudera Anunagba was measured but clearly moved. “This recognition carries real meaning for me,” he said. “Data analytics, at its best, is not about producing outputs. It is about giving people and institutions the clarity to act wisely. To have that understanding acknowledged by an awards body that represents African technological excellence motivates me to ensure that every project I take on, every paper I contribute to, continues to add genuine value. This award does not mark an arrival. It marks a responsibility.”
The Nigeria Technology Awards has, over the years, developed a deserved reputation for identifying talent that the wider world is still catching up to. In honouring Chukwudera Anunagba, the NiTA has once again demonstrated exactly that quality of foresight. The data analytics profession has in him a figure who understands not only the technical architecture of the field but its deeper obligations. That combination, rare in any generation, is what true excellence looks like.
