Rivers LG Elections: Materials Yet to Arrive Polling Units
Blessing Ibunge in Port Harcourt
Accreditation is yet to commence ahead of voting for the local government elections slated for today in Rivers State.
As at 8.30 am, no material has arrived in any of the polling centres monitored within Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt local government, by our correspondent.
It was observed that people either gathered in relaxation mood, while some young persons of voting age were seen playing street football.
However, security personnel, observers, party agents and RSIEC adhoc staff were on ground at the polling centres visited.
It was gathered that accreditation was expected to start by 10.00am.
Recall that Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Dr Michael Odey, stated yesterday, that all materials for the voting had been distributed to the various headquarters of the 23 LGAs as at Friday evening.
The RSIEC Chairman also stated that while results will be announced at the polling units, winners will only be declared at the RSIEC office after final collation.
