Founder of Etihuku and Curnance, Jeremiah Olamijuwon, has made history as the first-ever recipient of the Pamodzi Award, a newly established recognition from the Deep Learning Indaba, one of Africa’s leading gatherings for artificial intelligence and machine learning.
The Pamodzi Award was launched in 2025 to celebrate individuals who embody collaboration, innovation, and community impact in African AI. The word “Pamodzi” means “together” in Nyanja and Bemba, reflecting the award’s focus on unity and collective progress.
Olamijuwon expressed his gratitude for the honor. “Being the inaugural recipient of this award is truly humbling,” he said. “It is a recognition not just of my work, but of the incredible teams and communities I have had the privilege to collaborate with. This award reminds us that meaningful innovation is achieved together.”
As a leading figure in African AI, Olamijuwon has spearheaded initiatives that combine research, mentorship, and practical applications to advance the continent’s AI capabilities. His work has contributed to building inclusive spaces where emerging AI talent can learn, experiment, and collaborate across borders. The Deep Learning Indaba emphasizes that the Pamodzi Award recognizes not only technical excellence but also the ability to foster community and drive impactful change. By honoring Olamijuwon, the organization sets a high standard for future recipients and highlights the values it seeks to promote in African AI.
