SON Arrests Dealers of Adulterated Engine Oil in Sokoto

A team of the Surveillance Investigation and Monitoring (SIM) unit of Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) on has uncovered lubricant adulterating syndicate at mini mart along Gidan Mada area of Sokoto State.

The team swooped on the location and arrested a primary suspect who was found at the premise with various litres of Adulterated Mobile and Amasco engine oil.

According to the suspect who refused to give his name, he said he is a manager of Na’ada company a dealer of engine oil.

Speaking to newsmen at the scene, the state coordinator of Standard Organization of Nigeria, Sokoto state Alhaji Jubrin Mohammed represented by SIM team leader Murtala Muhammad Yusuf described the discovery as shocking stating that it is indeed a wake up call for Nigerians particularly the general public who have responsibility to provide intelligence information for the Organization for the apprehension of those dealing with substandard products.

“Last time we got a hint that some one is selling adulterated total engine oil, we swung into action and arrested the suspect, “he stated.

He further explained that despite SON’s several arrests in the past deviants Nigerians persist in the act of adulterating engine oil and selling to unsuspecting Nigerians destroying machinery and engines.

According to him, SON would not relent in the ongoing fight against unscrupulous elements who persist in defrauding Nigerians through their dubious acts.

He however advised dealers and manufacturers to always do the right thing by upholding standards in all their undertakings stressing it will ensure a vibrant economy through the strengthening of business as they adhere to international best practices.

The coordinator assured that the organization will continue to intensify efforts to apprehend criminals perpetrating such acts through discreet information gathering and arrest as this will go a long way in ensuring that the country is rid of substandard products.

He therefore called on Nigerians to come up with useful information in supporting the battle against substandard products by reporting to SON any unwholesome practice in the manufacturing products.

The SIM team carried out the operation alongside with men of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps who apprehended the suspect in the possession of several cartons of repackaging Mobile and Amasco engine oil.
