Group Expresses Worry over APC’s Fate in Anambra Governorship Poll

The media representatives of nine governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Anambra State, under the aegis of the Progressive Media Team (PMT), have expressed fear about the fate of the party in the forthcoming election.
The PMT, in a press briefing yesterday in Awka, said that the party’s primary election that was scheduled to hold on June 26 did not hold before Senator Andy Uba was declared the winner.
The Leader of the PMP, Mr. Toochukwu Onyedibe, a media representative of the aspirats, Dr. George Muoghalu, told journalists that the announcement of an unpopular candidate for the party may affect the performance of the party in the forthcoming governorship election.
A press statement that was read to journalists by Onyedibe said: “We want to state categorically clear that no primary election was held anywhere in Anambra State, and the purported declaration of anybody only exists in the imagination of the election committee members and their collaborators.
“We want the general public, Mr. President and the National Working Committee (NWC) of our party to know that the figures allocated to various aspirants by Governor Dapo Abiodun’s committee do not owe to the participation of Anambra APC members in any primary election because none took place in the 326 wards in the state.
“With this kind of result, we fear for the fate of the party in the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State because many people are not happy.
“This type of charade took place during the APC 2019 National Assembly primary election in Anambra, where the same man, Andy Uba hijacked the committee led by Mrs. Idaomi.
“The results were announced from the comfort of their hotel rooms, and the resultant effect was the disgraceful outing of the party in the election,” the PMT said.
It urged the party to reject the candidature of Uba, or choose one before the deadline stipulated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would be over.
Governorship aspirants within the APC that were represented by their media aides in the press conference included Dr. George Muoghalu, Mr. Azuka Okwuosa, Mr. Johnbosco Onunkwo, Mr. Chidozie Nwankwo, Mr. Paul Orajiaka, Mr. Hygers Igwebuike and Mr. Godwin Okonkwo.
