Public School Pupils Win FASCOS Contest for Girls

Three public school pupils who are desirous of studying science/engineering have emerged winners of Felicia Agubata Science Competition and Scholarship (FASCOS) for girls in primary schools, aimed at spurring their passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

They are Miss Taiwo Oloyede of Agbado Primary School, who came first and smiled home with a cash prize of N50,000 and a scholarship that will run through her secondary education.

Miss Azeez Suliat of Iju Primary School came second position. She was also awarded a scholarship that will cover her school fees throughout her primary and secondary programme, while, Taiwo Adeiyi of Oko Oba Primary School was third. She was also awarded a scholarship that will run throughout her primary and secondary school programme.

Speaking at the competition held physically and virtually, the facilitator and sponsor, Dr. Felicia Agubata noted that aside spurring their passion in STEM, it was also aimed at showcasing the socio-economic value and application of engineering in their everyday life, adding, “the pupils were selected from across 20 primary schools in Lagos and other parts of Ogun State.”

The President, Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Mrs. Funmilola Ojelade expressed delight about the initiative, saying that the seed that Agubata has shown is yielding fruits.

She congratulated the children saying, “I challenge you to make her proud. It is an honour well deserved.”

Dignitaries present at the programme included; former President, Council of Registered Engineers (COREN), Mr. Kashim Ali, who was father of the day, the Rector of Oko Polytechnic, Dr. Francisa Ugo, National President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Mohammed Babagana, among others.
