Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun state, and Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) recently reached a major milestone in their partnership with the groundbreaking of the bankers’ hall, a fully digitalized 160-seater endowment project situated at the university.
The ceremony witnessed the presence of CIBN officials, the Olofi of Ilishan, Oba Mojeed Sonuga, and university management, faculty, staff, and students.
In his remarks, the CIBN President, Prof. Pius Olanrewaju, described the project as reflecting the shared values between the institute and the university. He said that the initiative focuses on nurturing young people for the future.
“This marks the first time CIBN is endorsing an endowment project with a private university,” he stated, emphasising the importance of private institutions in developing human capital.
Vice-Chancellor of Babcock University, Prof. Ademola Tayo, thanked CIBN for its continued support, acknowledging the fruitful and enduring collaboration between the two institutions.
He highlighted how their partnership has fostered financial literacy, shaped professionals’ futures, and enriched the university’s infrastructure.
CIBN’s second Vice-President, Mrs. Mojisola Bakare-Asieru, said the Bankers Hall is set to become a centre for research, learning, and skills development, adding that the project aligns with the CIBN’s mission to prepare students for success in an ever-evolving world.
Mr. Akin Morakinyo, CIBN’s Registrar/CEO, reiterated the institute’s dedication to advancing education, excellence, and professionalism within the banking sector.
Prof. Samuel Dada, Dean of the School of Management Sciences at Babcock, emphasised the long-standing relationship between the university and CIBN, dating back to their 2012 MoU that facilitated the registration of Babcock’s finance undergraduates for ACIB exams.
He also highlighted the two institutions’ collaboration on postgraduate programs, which has benefited numerous students.
“Since 2010, Babcock University has served as an accredited examination centre for the ACIB, maintaining a strong reputation in the industry,” said Dada. “The university has also produced three CIBN presidents, including the current President, Prof. Pius Deji Olanrewaju, all of whom were faculty members in the Department of Finance.”
A student representative, Oluwatosin Noibi, hailed the initiative, acknowledging its potential to leave a lasting impact on the university and the broader community.
