Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has flagged off the distribution of 224, 440 bags of 25kg rice to the less-privileged across the state to ease the Ramadan feeding burden.
This was even as the governor issued a stern warning to the committee in charge of distribution against the diversion of the rice, promising to deal decisively with anyone found wanting.
The governor, who issued the warning while flagging off the distribution in the state yesterday at Tiamin rice in Kano, said the rice would be distributed across the 11, 222 polling units of the 484 Wards in the state.
He said: “I would like to use this opportunity to call on the Local Government Palliative Distribution Compliance Committee to adhere strictly to the guidelines stipulated for the distribution exercise, in a transparent manner and with the view that the food items reach the target groups and individuals.”
He said: “A total of 112,220 of 25kg of rice will be distributed to members of the public according to their senatorial zones. Currently, the distribution will take place in Kano South senatorial zone.
“Under this special programme, 224,440 households-112,220 males and 112,220 females from 11,222 polling units, will significantly benefit from this laudable Ramadan intervention.
“At this juncture, let me make it very clear and a sound warning that anybody, individually or collectively that is found to have diverted a single bag of rice would be dealt with decisively according to the law of the land.
“I am saying this so that those who think that they can divert these items meant for vulnerable people should rethink this. We will not allow, we will never condole any act of sabotage as far as the distribution is concerned.
“We are commencing the distribution today with the Kano South senatorial district comprising 16 local government areas, where a total of 31,670 bags of 25kg will by the grace of Allah be distributed.”
In his remarks, the Chairman, State Palliative Distribution Compliance Committee, who doubles as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, commended Governor Yusuf for the kind gesture and promised that the committee would ensure fairness and transparency during the distribution exercise.
