Real Madrid End Napoli’s UCL 14-game Unbeaten Run at Home

*Arsenal, Man Utd  beaten * Bayern survive Copenhagen with late winner

Victor Osimhen and his Napoli teammates were stunned 3-2 by Real Madrid in their Group C game of the UEFA Champions League clash at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Naples last night.

The Nigerian international was effectively caged by the tight markings of Madrid’s backline marshalled by Camavinga, Nacho, Rudiger and Carvajal.

Interestingly, it was the hosts Napoli that went in front first in the 19th minute when defender Leo Ostigard reacted quickest to head in after Natan’s effort came back off the crossbar.

But Vinicius Jr levelled for Real when he was played through on goal by Jude Bellingham. The England midfielder made it 2-1 lead at half-time when he carried the ball from 40 yards out, charged deep into Napoli’s defensive and then proceeded to weave his way through their backline before curling a shot cutely into the bottom right corner

Osimhen’s efforts however yielded a penalty following a VAR review that was converted by Piotr Zielinski from the spot.

French Referee Clement Turpin did not initially give the penalty when Osimhen’s shot was blocked by Nacho Fernandez.

Real grabbed the winner with just over 10 minutes left when Federico Valverde’s thunderbolt of a shot cannoned off the crossbar and went in via the back of goalkeeper Alex Meret.

The victory puts Carlo Ancelotti’s side at the top of Group C with six points from their opening two games, having beaten Union Berlin 1-0 in their first outing.

Napoli – who had gone 14 games unbeaten at home in the Champions League – are second and only clear of third-placed Braga on head-to-head after beating the Portuguese side 2-1 last month. Braga came from two goals down to win 3-2 at Union Berlin earlier on Tuesday.

French side Lens came from behind to shock Arsenal 2-1 in the Champions League last night. Elye Wahi’s first-time finish into the bottom left corner from a Przemyslaw Frankowski cross in the 69th minute saw the home side seal a notable success.

Elsewhere at Old Trafford, Manchester United’s woeful season lurched from one damaging loss to another as Galatasaray took advantage of some calamitous defending to record a comeback 3-2 Champions League win at Old Trafford.

A late Mathys Tel winner ensured that Bayern Munich left Copenhagen with all three points in their Group A clash while the defeat of United has dropped the Erik ten Hag men to the bottom of the table.
