NYSC Members Advised to be Patriotic

 The Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu, has tasked National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to sustain the spirit of patriotism, hard work and resilience, which they have imbibed during the orientation course in order to move the nation forward.

Similarly,  Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State  has  charged the NYSC  members deployed to the state to remain patriotic, focused and determined in the task of nation-building.

Aliyu gave the advice yesterday  at the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Orientation Course in Wamakko permanent orientation camp in state.

The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Muhammad Idris Gobir, said they should strive to meet the expectations of Nigerians by contributing towards the progress and development of the
country.

According to him, “My dear compatriots, as you begin the next phase of the service, I urge you to sustain the spirit of patriotism, hard work and resilience, which you imbibed during the orientation course.

“It is my ardent hope that you will strive to meet the expectations of Nigerians by contributing towards the progress and development of our dear country.”

Aliyu further admonished them to avoid the use of social media for ethnic jingoism, rumour peddling and the promotion of hatred, rather, their activities online should be targeted at self-improvement as well as for the promotion of unity, peace and development of the country.

 Advising them further, the governor said they must be wary of acts that can portray the scheme in a bad light, especially drug abuse and trafficking, cybercrime and advanced fee fraud.

He further advised them to respect the cultures and customs of their host communities, stressing that their security is guaranteed in the state.

Aliyu said the state government would enhance their welfare, saying the state allowance would be sustained.

He also warned ministries, departments and agencies in the state not to reject any corps member for any reason.

On his part, the NYSC state Coordinator, Alhaji Usman Yakubu Yaro, said the three weeks of training received in the camp has not only instilled in them the core values of the NYSC scheme, but has also impacted positively in them the readiness to embark on developmental projects that will help uplift the country.

Usman further stated that the majority of the corps members were posted to the rural areas where their services are highly needed.

Meanwhile,  Fubara has advised the corps members that while equipping themselves with relevant skills for self-employment, they should also contribute to the development of the country.

Governor Fubara gave the charge yesterday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Nonwa-Gbam Tai during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch B Stream 1 Orientation Course for corps members deployed in the state.

Represented by the Secretary to State Government (SSG), Dr. Tammy Danagogo, Fubara urged Nigerians to also nurture corps members as patriotic youths by imparting noble virtues in them that will arouse national consciousness and hunger for higher ideals in them.

He commended the corps members for their outstanding discipline, spirit of industry and high moral tone throughout the duration of the camping exercise.

The governor further assured them of his administration total support to regularly upgrade infrastructure in the camp and ensure their welfare and security.

In his welcome address, the state NYSC Coordinator, Mr. George Mfongang, described the corps members as well-trained and well-equipped to meet the expectations of the NYSC scheme and Nigerians at large.

He challenged them to “go into the communities of the 23 local government areas of the state and make positive impacts by helping the people to overcome their challenges through the execution of Community Development Service projects.”
