Plateau Utd Vow to End Insurance’s Unbeaten Run

Plateau United’s head coach, Fidelis Ikechukwu  has boasted that the Peace Boys will end Bendel Insurance’s unbeaten run when both teams clash this weekend.

Bendel Insurance is the only team yet to taste defeat in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, this season. Monday Odigie’s side enjoyed a five-point lead at the top of Group A table.

Ikechukwu is, however, confident his side will inflict the first defeat on the Benin Arsenals.

“It’s 100 per cent possible to take revenge on Bendel Insurance. Last season Rivers United were 14 games unbeaten coming to Plateau United but we beat them. So, that one is not a problem,” Ilechukwu said.

The most important thing is to psyche the team up but we will beat Insurance on Sunday.”

Plateau United lost 3-2 to Shooting Stars in Ibadan on Wednesday, while Insurance were held to 1-1 draw by Akwa United on the same day.  Meanwhile, Chief Coach of Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin, says the fixtures of the 2022/2023 NPFL were becoming harmful.

Odigie, whose team drew 1-1 at home to Akwa United FC of Uyo on Wednesday in a Group A match day 11 fixture, said the schedule was not helping him.

“The fixtures are too close for us to get the best out of the players,” he said. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Imade Osarenkhoe put the hosts in front in the second minute of the game at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.

Cyril Olisema rescued a point for his team against the hosts who shocked them 2-0 in Uyo on Match Day 1 of the abridged league season.

Odigie was however unhappy with the stalemate, even as they still lead their group with 25 points from 11 matches.

Akwa United are in third place on the log with 19 points from 11 games. In his post-match reaction, Deji Ayeni of Akwa United said the result was not bad for the two teams.

The coach noted that while his visiting side came into the match seeking revenge, the hosts were too resilient to give in.
