Abia Speaker, Chinedum Orji, Wins SUN’s Public Service Award 2020

The Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, has emerged winner of The Sun Public Service Award 2020.

The Managing Director of The Sun Publishing Ltd, Mr. Onuoha Ukeh, who came with his team of editors to notify Speaker of the award in his office at the Assembly Complex, Umuahia, said the number one lawmaker had shown through politics that lives could be touched since his entry into politics.

He said: “Under your leadership, the State Assembly has also passed these laws, among others: The Abia State House of Assembly Service Commission Law, the Abia State Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law, and the Abia State Donor Agency Trust Fund Law, the Abia State Security Fund Law, the Abians in Diaspora Commission Law, and the Abia State Water and Sewage Development Law, all meant to enhance governance and bring out egalitarian society.

“To give Abia Lawmakers (an) excellent environment, you engineered the remodelling of the House of Assembly Complex into a world class structure. You have put in place an excellent and harmonious teamwork spirit among lawmakers, regardless of their party affiliations.

“In order to discover talents among youths, you have embarked on the construction of nine mini-stadia across your constituency and beyond. The stadia which are at different levels of construction are located in Isieke community, St. Stephen’s Primary School, Umuahia, Ezeleke Community Primary School, Umuopara, Ubakala community, Ikwuano community, Olokoro, Ohuhu and two other communities in view.

“It is for these reasons and many others that the Board of Editors of The Sun Publishing Limited has chosen you as winner of The Sun Public Service Award 2020.

“The Public Service Award is given to that man or woman who has made exceptional giant strides in public service and thereby giving hope for a greater Nigeria,” he concluded.

Responding, the Speaker thanked The Sun Publishing Ltd team for the honour and for recognising the works he and his colleagues are doing in the Assembly in service to the people of the state.

He attributed his achievements as Speaker to the unprecedented support and cooperation he has been receiving from his colleagues and promised not to relent in touching lives “because that is all the essence of leadership.”

Orji also expressed delight at the direction the Management and Editorial team of the newspaper is going, saying if sustained, the sky will only be their limit.

Other awardees are Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State, Allen Onyema, Chairman/CEO of Air Peace, among others.

The award which will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at the Expo Convention Centre, Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos, is being organised by The Sun Publishing Limited, publishers of Daily Sun, Saturday Sun, Sunday Sun, and Sporting Sun.
