Adeyemi College of Education Matriculates 4,608 Students

As directed by the Federal Government, the Provost of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo State, Dr. Samuel Akintunde, has charged students of the institution to take COVID-19 vaccine jabs, make use of nose mask always and avoid crowded places.
Akintunde gave the charge yesterday at the matriculation ceremony of 4,608 fresh NCE and degree students of the institution for the 2020/2021 academic session.
The students were drawn from across seven faculties with 1,411 students for NCE programme and 3, 197 students for degree programme.
The provost of the institution, also admonished the new students to focus on their studies.
He said: “The matriculating students should recognise the full worth of the privilege of getting admissions into this great citadel of learning, the foremost teacher training institution in Nigeria. You should rejoice that out of the numerous candidates who jostled for the limited admission spaces that we have, you are found worthy of being admitted.
“Be informed that your matriculation oath is a legal bond between you and this college. You have just signed an agreement with the college to be under the rules and regulations guiding your studentship. It is important that you imprint it in your mind that you are liable to receive appropriate sanctions for any act of yours found to be antithetical to the oath you have taken.”
According to him, the primary aim of the students in the school is to get sound education and acquire skills.
The provost cautioned the fresh students at the institution to shun cultism and other criminal acts in order to realise their academic objectives.
He said: “It is important to warn you against social vices such as rape, drug abuse, cultism, fighting/assault, indecent dressing, gangsterism, stealing, willful damage of college properties and examination malpractices. The college management has zero tolerance for all these. If you are caught, you have to face the consequences of being expelled or suspended from the college.
“You cannot but make friends but your choice of friends may determine how well you will finish in the college. Therefore, I want to admonish you to be careful in choosing your friends so as not to be led astray by anyone. Discover yourself on time and engage in serious hard work for excellent results.”
The provost added that “you have to make out-of-box reflections to evaluate yourself on how well you are achieving your goals for coming to the college. You would need from time to time to adopt strategies to survive in a morally acceptable ways. Luckily, the college has Directorate of Entrepreneurial and Vocational Developments with capable tutors where you can learn out of the numerous available vocational skills, one that would be beneficial to you and the country in the future.
“Also, if you have issues you need to discuss on your adjustment to studies or relationship with others in the college, the office of the Dean, Student Affairs, human resources and counseling centre and staff advisers in the various departments are there to assist or listen to you for possible solutions.”
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Professor Eyitayo Ogunbodede, represented by the Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof. Omotoso Banke, enjoined the students not to indulge in physical confrontation with anybody, saying that there were civilised means of addressing grievances.
“Take advantage of official grievance procedure as stated in the Student Information Handbook to lodge complaints instead of taking laws into your hands,” he said.

A Degree Student from the Department of Mathematics, Mr. Kehinde Adejoke and another Student in the Department of Physics, Mr. Ademigbagbe Mathew, expressed their joy and stressed that they have been waiting for such a day for a very long time.
