A former Speaker Osun State House of Assembly and a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Najeem Salaam, has declared that he unsure if the party would really be ready for the governorship election in the state next year.

Salaam, who reacted to the action of leadership of the party during last weekend ward congress, alleged that the National Congress Committee (NCC) only worked with the list that the governor and the caretaker chairman gave to them but refused to carry other party members along.

He said: “With what the present administration is doing with the issue of ward congress, it seems they are not ready for the election in 2022.

“Why would people that want to go to an election against another party in 2022 be afraid of the election within their party?

Salaam, who is the Executive Director, Marketing and Business Development, Nigeria Communications Satellite Limited, NigComSat, Federal Ministry of Communication, confessed that there is crisis in Osun APC.

He said: “We have a political crisis in the state. The government in power has been cajoling people, harassing party members that are not in support of what they are doing within the party.

“Unfortunately, those that came to the state for sales of form are incommunicado. We only saw it online that they came for stakeholders meeting. People like me were not involved and some other eminent personalities within the party were not also involved to talk to them and address the issue on consensus.”

Salaam, who held a parallel congress, added that “if our results are not taken at the end of the day that means that they are saying people here are not important to the party. You know what it means to elections results. That means they are throwing us out and nobody can do that because this is our party. We are only calling for the restructuring of the party.

“The meaning of consensus is when the warring factions come together at a round table to discuss issues and agree to terms. Unfortunately, that was not done and they claimed they are having a consensus that will not work, it doesn’t appeal to any human common sense. Consensus should not be one side, it has to be multifaceted.
