Former Super Eagles forward, Odion Jude Ighalo and his estranged wife, Sonia, intensify their matrimonial face-off, throwing caution to the wind. Ferdinand Ekechukwu reports

The matrimonial squabble of footballer Odion Jude Ighalo and his wife Sonia seems to be playing out real. Many now wonder if there’s actually any room for both couple to put aside their differences and embrace their once admirable union/ home. In the eyes of quite a good number of their concerned fans and followers, Ighalo and Sonia are needlessly fighting dirty!

Recall that in January 2020, the ex-Super Eagles forward and his childhood sweetheart turned wife, Sonia, deleted their photos from their respective Instagram pages, furling speculations of their marriage crisis. Since then, both have not been seen together and have neither shared each other’s photos as they ceased celebrating their wedding anniversary. They even went as far as pulling off their wedding bands. Following which Sonia reverted to her maiden name, “Adesuwa”, on social media.

Their face-off just of late reignited when Sonia subtly called out Ighalo, via her post, for allegedly welcoming two babies now from two different women and purportedly refusing to pay child support.
Taking a swipe at him in the process, while congratulating him on the birth of his baby from another woman, Sonia however maintains her position as his legal wife. According to Sonia’s Instastories in pidgin and English, “Congrats Ighalo on the arrival of your baby (Feb) I just dey receive court email now lmao. We don many. Ah Father Abraham. Still one legally married wife. 2baby mamas 5kids and some slay queens still dey fight to enter. Y’all dey ment. Adesuwa baby, you are doing well.”

Ighalo, who currently plies his trade with Al-Shabab of Saudi Arabia, circuitously responded to the message which claimed he already has another child with another woman. Obviously, Sonia attempted to shame him via Instagram when she made the post that another woman had just delivered a child for the former Manchester United striker. She also alleged that Ighalo, who is back in the country after the Saudi Pro League ended, refused to pay child support. Ighalo, in a post on his Instagram handle, replied: “You can never bring a good man down. Who God has blessed, no one can curse #itstoolatetofail.”

Moments after his reaction to the accusations, Sonia took again to her Instastories to respond thus: “He who lives by the sword dies by the sword. You can’t bring a good woman down.” Also in the picture, was Sonia’s light reaction to actress Lilian Esoro and Ighalo’s sparks of romantic relationship. The Nollywood actress and the footballer ignited relationship rumour that stemmed from the posts they shared online following a tryst and the caption it came with. Busybodies who had reposted it and wanted Sonia to see it tagged her.

However, Sonia having seen it, warned mischief makers to stop tagging her to certain photos. The latest gist is that the recently divorced actress was spotted at an exclusive restaurant where she shared a photo of herself with the caption; “Candid moments are the best! The boo gets me always!” Interestingly, Ighalo also shared a photo from the same restaurant on his IG page. “When God says it’s your time, no one can stop it #birthdayinabit,” he captioned the photo.
The post was also liked by Lilian Esoro who finalized her divorce from music business executive Ubi Franklin in February 2021. Even though they shared the photos two days apart, it is believed that the actress and the footballer were at the restaurant together with the setting quite identical.

Esoro and Ighalo’s relationship rumours first sparked in 2020. Esoro used to be married to Ubi Franklin who is now SA to the Governor of Cross River and they have a son.
