Chidinma Switches to Gospel

Songstress, Chidinma Ekile has not only made a return to her first call, but leads a group of singers clad in angelic-white robe in the video to her new gospel entry, “Jehovah Overdo”. In the song, which was accompanied by visuals, the ‘Oh Baby’ crooner can be seen worshipping God with a host of choristers aiding her sonorously. “There is nothing you cannot do protocol breaker| There is nothing you cannot do Jehovah Overdo| I have tasted of your love | I have seen your mighty works| Mountain mover, my love onye oma ne me nma,” she sings in a mixture of English and Igbo in the 4 minutes 52 seconds video directed by Avalon Okpe.

Produced by EeZee Tee, “Jehovah Overdo” is a mellow groovy song of praise that testifies to God’s great works. The song is written and inspired by the Holy Spirit and personal life experiences; it is hence sung with befitting passion. The highly talented singer had taken a break from music and the public eye, leaving a hint on her Instagram page that she will no longer be dancing around the same themes of her previous hits like “Kedike”, “Emi Ni Baller” and more.

This was a year after she released the single titled ‘Holy’, a gospel song which chaperoned her return. Unknown to many, she has been undergoing a period of actively waiting on God and preparation for what is ahead. The crossover for Chidinma is not far-fetched as she has always had a pivotal role in the Church music ministry. She has been in the Church Choir from a young age and has been serving as a music director for many years now.

The Nigerian singer announced herself as a “Crusader of Jesus Christ” with the release of the new gospel track. The songwriter officially broke the news on the occasion of her recent birthday. Chidinma, on her 30th birthday on Sunday May 2, took to her Instagram handle to announce her new identity as a gospel singer, clearly suggesting a new spiritual orientation with a couple of new sobriquet – ‘Minister Chidinma’ and ‘Mummy G.O’.

During her ministration at Enthronement Assembly, she said she was not here for the fame, she had all of that and she’s turning a new leaf, “right now is the time to work for my father. He is the one who has called me I did not bring myself here”. Chidinma recently signed with Eezee Concept, a gospel-inclined record label, which is home to Mercy Chinwo, another popular gospel musician.
