Borno, Enugu Declare Friday Work-free Day

Borno State Government and the Enugu State Government have declared today (Friday) a work-free day to allow adequate preparation for the governorship and state House of Assembly elections.

Borno State Commissioner for Information, Mohammed Bulama, confirmed this in a statement issued yesterday.

“This is to inform the public that Friday, March 8, 2019 has been declared a public holiday by the Borno State Government. Banks and other institutions providing essential services are however exempted.”

He said: “This is to once again enable all the good people of Borno State, including public servants, to adequately prepare to participate in the gubernatorial and State Houses of Assembly Elections on Saturday.”

The Enugu State Government has also declared today, March 8, public holiday.

In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Gabriel Ajah, the state government however, stated that “banks, other financial and health institutions are exempted from this public holiday”.

Ajah further explained that the decision was “to enable the public servants and other residents of the state to travel to their respective registration wards and exercise their civic responsibility of casting their votes during the gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections holding on Saturday, March 9, 2019”.
