…as 2018 theme resonates with World Bank, IMF
The Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki and the Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq., have kicked off the mobilisation of the key stakeholders for whom the 2018 edition of the Alaghodaro Summit is designed.
Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Crusoe Osagie, said that this year’s special focus on people reinforces the commitment of the Obaseki-led administration to Edo people’s wellbeing.
Osagie said: “Development narrative across the world is changing from the age-long emphasis on brick and mortar model of development to people.
“The reigning people-centric development narrative adopted by the Edo State government as the theme for this year’s Alaghodaro Summit, resonated with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group at the just-concluded spring meetings of the institutions in Bali, Indonesia, where countries like Nigeria and other emerging economies were charged to invest more in education and healthcare to raise the socio-economic status of their people. So, the thinking of the Obaseki-led government resonates with global thought leaders at this time.”
He added that “This year’s Alaghodaro Summit is for the market woman, farmer, vulcaniser and all the players in the micro, small and medium scale enterprises’ space.
“Alaghodaro 2018 will interrogate the impact of the various policies and programmes of the state government on Edo people and residents under the watch of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
“It will review the impact of ongoing reforms in all the sectors, namely: the revamp of the Edo Development and Property Agency (EDPA) to attend to the housing deficit in the state with the ongoing development of 1800 housing units in Emotan Gardens; the institutional reforms sweeping across the judiciary with the ongoing development of court houses and provision of modern equipment; as well as the series of training packages with which the civil service has been reset to perform optimally; Education reform with Edo-BEST; the ongoing construction of 200 primary health centres across the state amongst others.”
The governor’s aide said the governor and the SSG are meeting with leaders of market women and other stakeholders to set the tone for the event.
The 2018 Alaghodaro Summit is the second in the series, with the first organised last year. The 2017 edition was tagged Envisioning the Future, and hosted the crème in Nigeria’s investment space, showcasing how the state is opening her doors to investors within and outside the country.
