Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has promised to establish a cancer foundation in honour of his late mother, Madam Gold Coast, who died of the ailment earlier this month in an American hospital.

The governor also underscored the need for all Nigerians to join in creating the necessary awareness about cancer which he said had ravaged many lives.

He made the call when the State Executive Council members led by the Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral John Jonah (rtd), paid him a condolence visit in his country home, at Toru Orua, Sagbama Local Government Area of the state.
Dickson noted that the cancer foundation would be instituted in memory of his late mother to principally screen people and create greater awareness on the dangers associated with the scourge.

He promised to use his influence to attract friends and other well-meaning individuals who would be invited to support ‘a worthy cause’.

Dickson expressed sadness over her departure, saying she was his confidant, whose supportive role particularly in his upbringing and political life would remain indelible.
