APC Convention: Nasarawa Substitutes Wambai for Idde as National Vice Chairman, North-central

Ahead of the national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has said the state chapter of the party has substituted Alhaji Suleiman Wambai with Alhaji Zakary Idde as its consensus candidate for the North-central zone National Vice Chairman of the party.

Idde is the current national vice chairman of the APC for the North-central zone and had at the weekend told journalists at his resident at Nasarawa Eggon, the headquarters of Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of the state that he was contesting to retain his position at the national level of the party as the zonal vice chairman for the North central zone.

Al-Makura stated the position of the state leadership of the party known at the weekend when officials of the state executive committee of the party paid him Eid al-Fitr homage at the

Government House in Lafia that Wambai is the consensus candidate of the party for the zonal national vice chairmanship position.

According to him, “Leadership of the party in the state has nominated Wambai as the North-central vice chairman of the party. I therefore call on you to conduct yourselves in a manner that will project the image of the state in a good light during the national convention of the APC.”

He continued that the leadership of the APC in the North-central zone had unanimously agreed to present consensus candidates during the party national convention.

According to him, “North-central zone will go to the convention as one group, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). By the time we finish the convention, we can just wait to swear in President Muhammadu Buhari for a second time.”

Similarly, the governor said he would not ignore the numerous calls on him to contest for the Nasarawa south senatorial district in the forthcoming general election.

He said: “I cannot ignore the numerous calls made to me, especially from eminent politicians from the southern senatorial zone to contest for the zone’s senatorial seat. However, I will keep the cat in the bag until the whistle is blown for the commencement of  political activities in the country.”

Earlier, state Chairman of the party, Philip Shekwo, on behalf of members of the state executive committee, had called on the governor to vie for the Nasarawa South senatorial district’s seat in the National Assembly in the forthcoming general elections.
