Laughter in Senate as Saraki Reads ‘Transmission’ Letter from Buhari

There was laughter on the floor of the Senate yesterday when the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, read a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari.

Saraki had barely mentioned the word “transmission” when the chamber erupted in laughter, which prompted the Senate President to cough, smile and said: “I will take that again.”

The senators were laughing in apparent mockery of what transpired last month in Kano when the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, had problems with the word “transmission” which he repeated several times at a public function.

The video clip of the police IG, which went viral, remains fresh in the memory of Nigerians who had a field day making fun of the police boss.

Saraki went on to read the letter from Buhari titled, “Transmission of the Deep Offshore and Inland Basin Production Sharing Contracts Amendment Bill 2018.”

In the letter, the president said: “I forward herewith a draft Deep Offshore and Inland Basin Products Sharing Contracts Amendment Bill 2018 for the kind consideration and passage by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria while hoping that the Bill will receive the usual expeditious consideration and passage by the distinguished Senate.

“While hoping that the bill will receive the usual expeditious consideration and passage by the distinguished Senate, Please accept Mr. Senate President the assurances of my highest regards.”
