A total of 31 students have been awarded first class, out of the 340 students that graduated from the Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State. 202 others also graduated with second class (upper division), while 93 made second class (lower division).
Speaking at the institution’s 10th anniversary and seventh convocation ceremony recently, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tunji Ibiyei advised the students to transform and update the knowledge they have acquired, to enviable community service delivered with integrity to becoming outstanding leaders.
He listed the academic programmes of the university, which started in 2008 with 12 undergraduate programmes distributed into two colleges and 10 departments to include Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Mass Communication, Political Science, InternatÃonal Relations, Sociology, Criminology and Security Studies,
Others are Biomedical Engineering, Computer engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Telecommunications, Engineering, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Geology, Computer Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing Science and Law; Private and Business Law, Public and International Law.
He said the National Universities Commission (NUC) has in the current academic session granted approval to the institution for the commencement of postgraduate programmes like M.Sc Accounting, M.Sc/MBA Business Administration and M.Sc Computer Science.
In his remarks, the Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Bode Ayorinde advised the graduating students to conduct themselves as achievers as they open another chapter in their lives.
“As we release you to the outside world, please remember you are achievers and behave and conduct yourself as achievers, dream it and work towards it,” he said, adding that they have what it takes to conquer the world.
He said though the journey has not been rosy, the institution will not relent in its efforts to being among the best universities in the world.
Ayorinde enumerated a 10-point agenda the university intends to pursue for the next five years for greater and more significant growth to position it in the class of leading universities in the country.
As part of events to mark the anniversary and convocation ceremony, the school awarded honorary degrees to Emeritus Professor David Adedayo Ijalaiye; Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, Chairman, Lagos State Inland Revenue Service, Mr. Babatunde Fowler and a member of the House of Representatives, Honorable Aishatu Jibril Dukku.
Present at the ceremony was the Ondo State Governor, Olurotimi Akeredolu, who also played a significant role in the establishment and development of the university. He expressed delight at the growth recorded by the institution in the past 10 years.
