The Secretary General of the Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation, Mr. Peter Omagbemi, said the tournament which started last week was not only aimed at discovering new talents that will form the core of the National teams,  but to keep the players who are scattered all over the country busy.
Omagbemi whose is executing his first national  assignment as the scribe of the federation, said Nigeria can boast of raising four standing national teams that can challenge any country in world today but such players can never be assessed except through events like this, hence the tournament.
Besides, the Secretary also hinted that both the world and the continental bodies would soon kick-start their 2018 activities for countries to participate and Federation want to get prepared in order not to be caught napping in anyway.
Omagbemi also called stakeholders in the sport to come together with the sole aim of salvaging the situation through sponsorship of the Federation’s activiies.
He begged the corporate world to come to their aid, stressing that the sport is really in need of sponsorship if they must excel beyond their present level in the country.
