CAN Tasks Leaders on Humility

Leaders across boards have been tasked on the need to eschew pride and demonstrate humility in their relationship with God, their subordinates, their equal and others.

This charge was given by Rev. Samson Ayokunle, President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) who was the guest speaker at the Interdenominational Divine Service organised by the Lagos State Chapter of CAN.

Ayokunle berated politicians who place themselves above church authorities when they attend church services, warning that God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.

The CAN president who narrated how Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church Of God (RCCG) paid him a surprise visit in his Ibadan office on learning that he (Ayokunle) was planning to visit him lambasted clerics who find it difficult to respect their colleagues who feel they are better than, to submit to authority, especially the ones instituted for the body of Christ.

Corroborating Ayokunle, the state Chairman of CAN, Apostle Alexander Bambgola said there is no better time than now in the nation and the body of Christ for leaders and the citizens to be humble themselves in the service to God and humanity.

On his part, the state governor and special guest of honour, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode thanked the spiritual leaders for their prayers for the peace, progress and development of the state.

Touching on the service theme, he called on Christians to: “Exemplify Christ-like behaviour by loving and caring for one another. Above all, as Christians and leaders, we must show humility in service because it is a privilege to be called upon to serve.”

Chairman of the Planning Committee of Interdenominational Divine Service and Secretary of CAN, Lagos, Baba Aladura, Israel Akinadewo added his voice to charge leaders on humility.

“Seeing the example of Jesus who washed the feet of his disciples we thought of speaking to our leaders about humility in service. From the sermon of the president of CAN we realise that our nation will be better if leaders can humble themselves,” Akinadewo added. He also said the Interdenominational Divine Service was an avenue to appreciate God for the peace and unity being enjoyed in the state.
