A total of 324 graduates, including nine first class graduands will take part in the fifth convocation ceremonies of the Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, which will hold on Saturday, February 10.
Of the figure, 126 second class (upper division); 149 second class (lower division) and 40 third class will also be graduating on the same day.
Briefing journalists at the university’s Convocation Arena on Monday, the Vice-Chancellor, Rev Prof. Christian Anieke said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeamah would deliver the convocation lecture on Friday, February 9.
He said one of the unique features of the convocation is the famous GO University Town and Gown Assembly, the meeting of the university and the companies and service agencies within the state and the nation.
According to him, more than 50 companies have registered so far for the event, which would offer students the opportunity to interface with them, ask questions and discover areas where they can direct their research interests and activities.
He said the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the Faculty of Law of the university, even as he announced the readiness to move the university to its permanent site at Ugwuomu Nike in the next academic session in 2019.
Anieke said the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal has commenced the construction of an ultra-modern auditorium at the permanent site, in addition to other structures completed or under construction at the site.
He said the access road to the permanent site has commenced with the state government donating N500 million, while the university would source for N1 billion to complete the N1.5 billion project.
The don also announced that the GO University Scholarship Trust Fund of N500 million would be launched as part of the convocation activities, stressing that the fund would help to support indigent students, as well as attract foreign but indigent students.
“Let me point out that many good and strong universities all over the world have different scholarship arrangements to support their less privileged students.”
He appealed to public-spirited individuals and corporate organisations to donate to the fund.
