Since his defection last week, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, tongues have been wagging about a former Governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala’s political ideology.
In the wake of this recent development, it is said that the move has further confirmed his desperation for power and political relevance.
Why his defection has been widely criticised is that Akala, who was the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in the 2015 governorship election in Oyo State after he failed to clinch the Peoples Democratic Party’s ticket in the primary, had vilified the APC so much.
However, his recent move, it was learnt, is not unconnected with his ambition to clinch the party’s senatorial ticket in 2019.
For a fact, many would not forget in a hurry how he betrayed his former boss, Rasheed Ladoja, in 2006.
Since then, he has been viewed by many as a desperate politician who can do anything for power.
After allegedly ganging up against his former boss alongside the late Ibadan top politician, Lamidi Adedibu, he became the governor of the state and ruled until 2007 when he also used the man’s political clout to win the election under the Peoples Democratic Party. But it was quite obvious in 2011 that he was paperweight when he failed to return to Agodi, the state governor’s office.
Since then, many feel he has showcased his desperation for power without any iota of shame.
