A non-governmental organisation, Dunes Foundation, has donated a primary healthcare centre to Piyanko Community in Nasarawa State ‎in order to help the residents get access to medical care.
‎Its founder, Hajia Zainab Zeitou, while speaking at the opening and handing-over of the Centre said the initiative was borne out of her obligations to ensure that the needy are catered for in the society.
She added that the Foundation would not relent in its oars, but rather ensure that the need of the people are well taken care of.
Zeitou however commended the community chief for making the land available for the construction of the clinic.
Meanwhile, the Project Officer, Mr. Godwin Shuki said it was resolved by the management of the foundation to build a clinic after a need assessment had been carried out by both the community leaders and the foundation.
He said there was no healthcare facility in the community adding that the people usually traveled outside the community to seek medical attention.
According to him, “this project started two months ago after a need assessment was carried out. We saw that there was a need for the community to have a healthcare. This is because the nearest clinic to the community is about 45 minutes away from a community with no road network.”
He noted that the foundation focused on different areas including education, water, women empowerment and healthcare.
Also, the Sarkin of Piyanko,‎ Alhaji Abubakar Gado, commended the foundation while calling for more support from meaningful Nigerians to develop the community.
He called on the federal government to begin to look at the plight of the citizenry by bringing relief to the people to avoid any form social vices capable of destroying the country.
“This community has been in existence for over 67 years and there has been no any development as far as I am concerned. Our politicians come here and campaign with promises that were never fulfilled. Our women deliver at home, no school and no meaningful life in the community.
“We are calling on the government to come in and help us develop our community so that our children can live a fulfilled life,” he pleaded.
