  • Sokoto Warns Shiite Members Against Conducting Rally

The Sokoto State Government wednesday warned the Islamic Movement of Nigeria popularly referred as Shiite sect, to desist from conducting any procession in the state or face the wrath of the law.

Addressing journalists in Sokoto wednesday, the state Commissioner of Justice, Mr. Suleiman Usman (SAN), said the warning became necessary so as to avert breach of peace in the state.

He stated that government would not fold its arms and allow some individuals make life miserable for the residents of the state.

The commissioner disclosed that government had received several complaints from Islamic organisation on the ongoing activities of the Shiite sect which is capable of endangering peace in the polity.

Usman urged the Shiite members to halt their intended rally or face the wrath of the law.
“As you are aware, we have received several complaints from the people on the activities of the Shiite members at the Sultan Abubakar mosque in Sokoto.

“So, we are calling on them to halt such activities and desist forthwith from carrying out their intended procession because of serious tension in the metropolis.
“The present administration will not fold its arms and allow these individuals cause breach of peace in the state,” he said.

He appealed to the people of the state to remain calm assuring that government would not waiver in its responsibility of protecting them.

Also speaking, the state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulkadir, said the police would do whatever it takes to ensure peace in the state.

He added that any procession or rally that would endanger the lives of the people would not be allowed to take place in the state.
