The coming together, last week, of leaders from South-west, South-east and South-south to form a common front and stand against the quit order issued by the Arewa Youths’ Consultative Forum (AYCF) against the Igbo was a good move.
Good as this move may seem, their coming together must not be seen as an alliance to further expand the existential fault lines amongst the various ethnic nationalities but as a move to close the gaps and also work out how the contending forces can continue to work together in oneness. Hence, such unity must be extended to their northern colleagues to enhance constructive engagement among all the zones.
It is clear that the people must have to come together to discuss the way forward. It is a reality that cannot be run away from, given the issues at stake. But certainly not in a fashion that could disintegrate the beauty of the nation’s unity, because no matter what, like former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar said, “All of us is far better than some of usâ€.
