Tambuwal Okays N20m Grants for Islamic Schools’ Proprietors, Others

Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, yesterday approved N20 million as grants to be distributed to selected Islamic Schools’ Proprietors, clerics and Islamic organisations in the state.

The Executive Secretary of the State Arabic and Islamic Education Board, Alhaji Ahmad Baba-Altine,made this known during a chat with newsmen in Sokoto at the weekend.

He said the grants would assist the beneficiaries in running their schools and organisations. He stated that the grants were in addition to the monthly allowances being given to registered Islamiyya schools in the state.

According to him, the aim is to boost integration of Islamic and western education in the state. “The grants are given annually while over 2000 registered Islamiyya schools are benefiting from monthly allowances,”he said.

Altine further stated that,the State Government periodically rehabilitate and renovate Islamiyya schools across the state. He said this was in addition to posting of its teachers to such schools in critical areas of need.
