Shittu, Danbatta to Lead Discourse at Digital Innovation Confab

The Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu and the Executive Vice-Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Danbatta will lead discussions at this year’s Nigeria Digital Innovation Conference holding in Kano.

Both the Minister and the EVC confirmed their participation via separate letters of endorsement of the event, addressed to the organiser, Centre for Cyber Awareness and Development (CECAD).

The Minsiter Barr. Adebayo Shittu during a recent visit to the Centre, pledged the support of the Ministry and its readiness to optimize digital opportunities for Nigeria. “Our goal is to leverage the ICT sector for efficient and transparent governance, inclusive participation of the public in government activities as well as socio-economic diversification hence we are committed to partnering your Centre to achieving a common and collective objective” the Minister noted.

In the same vein, the Nigerian Communications Commission in a letter stated; “We write to convey management’s approval for support and endorsement of the Nigeria Digital Innovation Conference 2016, being hosted by your organization. The Commission’s support is hinged on its commitment toward creating awareness and engagement of stakeholders in addressing germane industry issues,” said NCC in the letter signed by Mr. Reuben Mouka, Head of Public Relations on behalf of the Executive Vice-Chairman Professor Umar Danbatta

NCC added that its support and endorsement of the conference is predicated upon the organiser’s demonstration to implement a multi-stakeholder conference whose outcome will enrich the efforts to accelerate ICT development in Nigeria.

The Conference with the Theme: ‘Building a new Nigeria in a digital economy’ is scheduled to hold at the Bayero University, Kano North-West Nigeria between 18-19th of August 2016.
The event is structured to examine how the rapid expansion of digital technology and broadband is transforming the economic opportunities for millions of Nigerians.

The conference presents an opportunity to engage multi-stakeholders of high-powered panelists, experts and audience drawn from both the public and private sectors of the Nigerian economy to articulate best ways for promoting youth innovation, job creation and economic development in the digital world.

The Centre for Cyber Awareness and Development is an advocacy, training, public education and development non-profit, non-governmental organisation (NGO).The overall aim of CECAD is to promote cyber responsibility by Internet users at the local, regional, national and international levels through advocacy and public education.
